Boat race!

Not the Oxford v Cambridge type but today included a race against a boat along the coast. The run started normally as per usual.  Down to the beach and along to Witches Point.

Tide was right out so the reef was very exposed – Note the slanty photo angle ….

The recent deluges means the waterfall is alive!

At Witches Point I stopped to turn to return home (around 3 and a half miles) and noticed a sailboat just coming around the point and headed with the wind in the direction homeards…..

If you can spot the boat … youve got better eyesight than me – but I promise its there

I wonder if Im faster than a sailboat over 2 miles? Even better a boat that doesnt know its in a race. The course was set – me v boat to the headland in the photo below. I had some rocks to traverse but I reckoned I could do it

So as the boat drew level I was off.  Boats actually go much quicker than they seem when you’re trying to keep level so for the 2 miles or so I was going pretty much flat out. I was pleasantly surprised that I could do the first mile over a lot of rocks at 7 minute pace but the boat was keeping level. The second mile was just wet sand and with some determination and complete disregard for my health I managed a 6 minute mile (probably the first and only in my life) to come in just ahead of the boat. Winner winner chicken dinner!

Boat slightly behind!

Next up a speedboat ….. kidding …. Last risk taken before the ultra …. probably

How green was my waterfall

Took 7 more miles and a sunny day to finally catch up with my posts! Only to Witches Point and back but totally worth it if only to realise my body is so happy at the shorter distances its building confidence for the longer ones.

I of course saw some stuff ™

Spring weather means algae! (and waterfalls) Look – I have discovered purest green!

I found quicksand – Not necessary to throw myself flat as it was contnet to stop at my ankles – There are shifting patches of this all over the beach, running into one is a bitch as it suddenly stops you and pulls all your legs muscles at once.

Of course there were beautiful views

And a little boat braving the sea between the shore and Nash sands, I wayched in hope for a while but it didnt sink

2 miles of ass haulin’ and 5 of haulin’ ass

I think that sums up my runs at the moment. Always around 2 miles befor it feels good and I want to do more and more! Hop skip jump around the beach.

Run all the rocks! And past the fishermen!

Past the fishing boat

Past rocks with holes

Past the rockfall – No real change yet – Perhaps this tide thing takes longer than i thought. Im so impatient

Oh yeah and I took a look at runkeeper which I rarely do these days and sometime last week I passed my 1000th running mile!  In fcat I’m on 1020 now :p  Damn I really am no good at stats

We’re gonna need a bigger boat Part II

What’s worse than finding a surfboard on the beach?

Finding half a surfboard.

Some of you may remember the day I found the shark

Today I found the trail of shark destruction!

SAM_0789.JPG
Exhibit 1 – Half a surfboard – I’m kinda sad that it doesn’t have a semi circular break with teethmarks. Do sharks wear dentures?
SAM_0833.JPG
Exhibit 2 – Single flipper – No foot inside – where is the foot? In the shark?
SAM_0856.JPG
Exhibit 3 – Boat clearly showing shark damage to hull – I’ve seen Jaws – I know my hull breaching shark attacks
SAM_0857.JPG
Exhibit 4 – I turned the boat over half expecting a mangled corpse but it was empty – Further proof that the shark is indeed man-eating!

As I have already captured the shark I am off to claim the reward. If by some chance it isn’t the same shark …. There may be a difference in the bite circumference between an inflatable shark and a Great White …  It’s still out there … lurking

Oh yeah I ran around four and a half miles and it was beautiful and I felt great and my imagination kept me company aaaaaalllll the way
